Black Bear Crossings Café and Banquet Center’s mission statement is to celebrate positive American Indian identity, provide a venue for multicultural sharing, and promote community. In keeping with the spirit of our mission statement, we were pleased that on May 14th, 2013 Minnesota became the 12th state to legalize same sex marriage. Not only is Minnesota the 12th state to legalize same sex marriage, but it is also the first Midwestern state to legalize same sex marriage by legislative vote. This victory gives other states across the nation motivation to move forward with legalizing same sex marriage. The law will officially take effect on August 1st, 2013 and same sex couples will finally have the freedom to marry who they love. On the day of the vote State Senator Tony Lourey said “In my heart of hearts, I know that today love wins.” Our sentiments exactly.
In keeping with the spirit of our mission statement, we are hosting a wedding open house for engaged couples in the GLBT community. Black Bear Crossings, CELEBRATION OF FREEDOM TO MARRY – Wedding Open House will be held on Wednesday July 31st, 2013 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. This event will give couples the opportunity to meet our event coordinators, ask questions, meet our preferred vendors and enjoy wine & hors d’oeuvres. This is an exciting time for Minnesota and the GLBT community and we want to be a part of it. We’re eager to meet all of the couples and help them coordinate and plan their special day. A wedding ceremony and reception in The Park on Historic Lake Como provides a beautiful and memorable timeless event celebrating the passage of this historic legislation and letting love win!
