Café in St. Paul
Black Bear Crossings Café and Banquet Center is not only a wonderful gem of a café in St. Paul but it also provides a free Thanksgiving Day feast. On Thanksgiving, which falls this year on November 22, from noon to 2 pm enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal of turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, apple wild rice dressing, vegetables, bread and pie. The meal starts with a traditional Native Blessing by Jerry Dearly, Oglala Lakota, Nationally Recognized Pow-Wow MC and respected elder spiritual leader. Located in Como Park, Black Bear Crossings is a historic venue in St. Paul that offers a gorgeous view to go along with your meal.
Anyone is invited to attend. Originally, the free meal was aimed at helping people who were struggling. However, since Black Bear Crossing is not located on a bus line, the meal has become more of a community-building event, with people of all ages and backgrounds enjoying the meal together. The meal is for everyone, from the elderly who would rather not cook such a large meal to the college student who’s not going home for the holiday to the single parent who simply doesn’t have the budget this year—again, any person for any reason is invited.
If you or someone you know wants to join a fun-filled, delicious community feast, stop by on Thanksgiving Day. You might come alone, but you’ll leave feeling full—both of delicious food and of community support.
